چکیده
In the attempt to shed new light on the λ Boo phenomenon we analyzed the astrometric, photometric and spectroscopic characteristics of stars out of a list of recently selected λ Boo candidates. We show that the class is still ill-defined and discuss the possibility that some, if not most stars presently classified as λ Boo, are in fact binary pairs and that peculiar abundances may not correspond to actual values if the average values of the atmospheric parameters Teff and log g are assumed and the effect of veiling is not taken into account.

We initiated a large project aimed to estimate the Luminosity Function of galaxies in clusters and to evaluate its relation to cluster morphology. With this paper we deem necessary to outline the general procedures of the data reduction and details of the data analysis. The cluster sample includes the brightest southern ROSAT all-sky survey clusters with z < 0.1. These have been observed in thr...

We present low-dispersion visible spectra of two regions of the 30 Doradus nebula. When corrected for atomic continuum emission and divided by the spectrum of the exciting and illuminating stars, one of the two spectra clearly shows Extended Red Emission (ERE) superimposed on the scattering component. This ERE band peaks around 7270Å and is 1140Å width. HAC grains are found to explain the obser...
متن کاملThe Rise and Citation Impact of astro-ph in Major Journals
The rise in the use of the arXiv preprint server (astro-ph) over the past decade has led to a major shift in the way astronomical research is disseminated. Schwarz & Kennicutt (2004) recently found that Astrophysical Journal papers posted to astro-ph are cited roughly twice as often as papers that are not posted, suggesting that the preprint server has become the primary resource for many astro...
